Bay Area Stockist Spotlight: Folktale Provisions

Bay Area Stockist Spotlight: Folktale Provisions

Take a trip with us to Carmel Valley and read about our stockist Folktale Provisions!

Last month our studio manager Caroline had the chance to visit one of our favorite stockists, Folktale Provisions

Folktale Provisions

Provisions shop was founded by our friend and author Daniel Scheffler as an extension of Folktale Winery & Vineyards. He had the idea to create a unique retail space within the winery with highly curated goods that cater to creatives and people who love art and life. I had so much fun visiting for the day! The winery is set in the surreal landscape of the Carmel Valley and it's only a few minutes drive from the ocean. The Provisions shop is inside a French Country-style stucco building and surrounded by Folktale's expansive vineyards. The whole place was so beautiful and serene!

The Team: Temia and Alexa!

When I arrived I got to meet Temia Demakopoulos, the head shopkeeper behind Folktale Provisions. Before coming to the winery she dedicated several decades working at the famous Gump's in San Francisco. Now she brings her amazing taste to Folktale! She also introduced me to their newest shopkeeper, Alexa Hanamaikai, who joined with a background in Fashion and Retail and has an amazing eye for curation. It was so fun getting to chat with them in person! We shared a glass of wine and they told me all about the store!

Shopping the Store: Regional Artists and Some of our Favorite Pieces!

The shop is expertly curated and features a wide-range of home goods and kitchenware by local and regional artists. I fell in love with these mountain-esque beeswax candles by Oakland-based Umé Studio and these beautiful sturdy ceramic pieces by Marin artist Tina Fossella. They even paired their bottles with our Cork Winer Coolers!

The Wine Garden: Enjoying Rose Season and Seasonal Foods!

After browsing the shop, I went outside to stop by the kitchen and enjoy the live performance by singer-songwriter Magenta Spreen. Folktale hosts concerts all summer long and you can listen to live music while you dine!

We were able to grab a seat and try a few things off the menu, all of which were sooo delicious! The Little Gem Caesar was bright and fresh with anchovies and homemade giant croutons and the charcuterie board was exceptional. My personal favorite was the mustard jam they added to the board!

Before heading back to the Bay we tried a few different wines! Folktale is known for it's sustainability practices and use of local ingredients that emphasize Monterey's cool climate and rocky soils and the wine was so incredible! My personal favorites were the The White Witch and the Sparkling Rosé pictured below. We got to take a quick stop by the rose garden and take in the beautiful view of the mountains.

Next time you're in Santa Cruz County or Big Sur make sure to stop by Folktale and enjoy a lovely day with great wine, food, and beautiful home goods!
