BIG NEWS! Melanie is headed to Portugal!

BIG NEWS! Melanie is headed to Portugal!

Hi friends,

Whew—big life update! I’m officially packing up and moving to Portugal this fall to open up our second location at the MAD House (!!). It’s something I’ve dreamed about for years, and it’s finally happening. But before you worry—don’t! Melanie Abrantes Designs isn’t going anywhere. We set up everything so this wouldn't be too  hard transition for yall! We’re still here, still teaching carving workshops, shipping from California, and still making magic with our community.

Here’s the breakdown of what’s changing (and what’s not):

What’s Not Changing:

You’ll still get your orders, no problem.
We're currently moving everything to fulfillment in California, so your favorite products,  tools and kits will ship just like always! This was a huge endeavor for my team and I. We packed 1,000s of products, designed packaging (finally!) and made sure everything was organized for this transition. We are so proud to be graduating to this next step!

Carving classes are still happening!
Our girl Laura from Studio Francine—who’s been teaching alongside me all year—is taking the lead on classes while I move. She’s SO good, and you’re in the best hands. We will only be doing Spoon Carving Classes for now in both Oakland and San Jose

What Is Changing:

We’re pressing pause on made-to-order pieces.
With the studio in transition, we’re hitting pause on all made to order pieces for now. If there’s something you’ve been eyeing (vases, cork pieces, etc.), shoot us an email—we might be able to sneak it in before we fully close up shop.

We’re throwing a big Moving Sale!
Come hang! On Saturday, June 29th, we’re hosting a HUGE sale at the Oakland studio with one-of-a-kind pieces, samples, machinery, tools and everything we can’t bring with us. First come, first serve! 6/29, 10am-3pm. 155 Filbert St ste 102 Oakland, CA

Where we’re headed:
We’ll be in Houston for a few months to spend time with family before officially settling in Porto, Portugal this October. I’ll still be running things (just from a new time zone), and I can’t wait to bring you along for the ride.

I’ve called Oakland home for the past 11 years—and wow, what a chapter. It’s where I started my business, wrote my first book, and found the most inspiring, creative community. Leaving is bittersweet, but I’m so excited to start this next chapter in Porto!

Thanks for being part of the journey. MAD was built in a tiny studio with a whole lot of heart—and that’s not changing anytime soon.

xo,
Melanie
