At the beginning of this year, Rudd Estate reached out to see if I wanted to be a part of their Unlikely Collaborators Residency. They invited me to stay on their scenic garden property to create pieces that were inspired by the nature around the property. I was honored to be a part of it and was so excited that they asked! We scheduled two weeks during the summer for me to spend some time getting acquainted with the area and begin creating.
I'll be honest, I was speechless when I came to see the space. It was so beautiful! The late owner's wife did all the estate's gardens and filled it with an ancient olive orchard, native plants, a desert garden and a pond. And the Rudd team were so friendly and welcoming! We all got to interact everyday and hopefully inspire each other (I know they inspired me)!
I brought as many carving tools as I could from Oakland and set up shop in front of the retreat. Caroline, our studio manager, was able to come up for one of the days to learn and do some carving projects with me as well.
We couldn't have asked for a better experience and were so happy to spend time working on projects and ideas that have been in my mind forever! Huge thank you to Rudd Estate for having me and creating such an inspiring week.
