Discovering the Art of Woodworking: A Review of the Port Townsend School of Woodworking

Last summer, my studio assistant Stephanie and I had the pleasure of attending the Port Townsend School of Woodworking in Port Townsend, WA for a relief carving class. It was an incredible experience! 

The instructors were knowledgeable and patient, and the classroom was well-equipped with all the tools and materials we needed. We went in not knowing much about relief carving, but we both came out with some impressive pieces. It was great to share the experience with Stephanie and witness her progress throughout the class.

What made the experience even more special was the sense of community tha grew with our fellow students. We all shared a love for woodworking and were supportive of one another throughout the class. It was a fantastic environment where we could exchange tips and techniques and fully immerse ourselves in the craft.

Port Townsend is located in a beautiful area in Northwestern Washington, and we made the most of our downtime by exploring the Olympic Peninsula's stunning nature. We went hiking, tide pooling, and even visited a local brewery. It was an excellent way to balance out the carving work we did in class with fun!

This June, I'm excited to return to the Port Townsend School of Woodworking to teach a class on cork turning, a fascinating woodworking technique that produces unique and stunning results. I'm looking forward to sharing my knowledge and learning from my students. You can learn more here.
